Start Time:
Wednesday, June 27, 2012 - 8:30pm - 10:30pm

Come join us EVERY 2nd and 4th WEDNESDAY for a variety of fun skills building games, socialization and practice. Each month will feature a different game or theme to keep things fun, fresh and interesting!

This event is open to all experience levels.  Those new to kayaking come just to try it out.  Beginners use this time to practice skills and control, and to meet others to paddle with.  Experienced paddlers enjoy the skills-building games.  Parents bring their kids to kayak in a safe, controlled environment.

Kids of all ages love kayaking.  To them, a kayak is like a big floating water toy!  Many kids associate kayaking with learning to drive, because of the freedom and responsibility as well as the mobility and control they acquire.  Kayaking is also a perfect social activity for kids, as it get them outside, away from video games and around others kids with similar interest.

While this event is open to anyone, the emphasis should be on uniting families and creating an opportunity for kids to paddle.  Please sign up only if you're bringing kids along with you.

Not only is this a great way to build your skills, it's also a great way to meet other kids and families to paddle with.

What to expect:
8:15 - 8:30pm; Arrive and unload gear
8:30 - 8:40; sign in, pay entry/use fee, change clothes, enter pool
8:40 - 9:00; warm-up & practice
9:00 - 10:20; Pool divided. 1/2 for games, 1/2 for recreational use
10:20 - 10:30; Pull swimming lanes back across pool, exit pool, exit building

See you there!

Kelly

A quick note about times:

We realize the time is late for many kids, which is why we chose Jnue as Kids month vs. a month when school is in session. The city pools are available to us only after-hours, so we hope your kids can rest a little before the event, come join us for an awesome time in the pool, and sleep well after the event.

Price:
$8.00 Before Tax
Payment:

Pool rental - $8; This fee applies to everyone who paddles.

Boat & Gear - $5; This fee applies only if you request a boat and gear.  Please note your height & weight in your RSVP, so I know what size boat to bring.

Kayak Demo - $15; This fee applies if you request a specific boat.  Please note the boat you want to demo in your RSVP.

Private Lessons - $75; 2-hr Private "Intro to Kayak" or "Kayak Roll" Lessons are available with advanced notice.  Pool and gear rental fees are waived for private lessons. Private lessons may include up to 2 individuals covering the same content.

Why RSVPs are so important....
The pools are expensive to rent, and this time New Mexico Kayak Instruction covers the pool rental as a community service to local paddlers. RSVPs are needed to ensure we have a minimum number of people to cover the pool rental fees, and to limit enrollment so that the pool does not become over-crowded. Also, by RSVP'ing, we are able to communicate via email about last-minute changes, which often include cancellation due to lightening, or other pool closures.

  • If you RSVP for yourself and/or a guest (ie - you reserve a spot), and no-show, you will receive a Pay-Pal request for the pool rental fee ($8); this balance must be paid in full before your RSVP will be accepted for the next pool party
  • If you request a boat and/or any gear, and cancel after the gear has been loaded (typically 3hrs in advance), you will receive a Pay-Pal request for the gear ($5); this balance must be paid in full before your RSVP will be accepted for the next pool party
  • If you show up and have not RSVP'd, (ie -you have not reserved a spot), you may be asked to return another time if the maximum number of paddlers has been reached (typically 30) at Los Altos Pool. If there is additional space, or someone has no-showed, you'll be admitted after 8:15.

Please RSVP, and keep it current.

Even though I only took the Intro to Kayak class at the pool prior to the Coastal Kayaking on Inlandwaters 'Kayak Touring' course, I was confident in performing the wet exit in open waters…the rescue exercises were by far the biggest asset of the class.

Kelly is a very good teacher - he presents learning as fun.  His classes are relaxed and low pressure.  I picked up many skills and knowledge that will make paddling easier and safer for me in the long run.
