Yes, there are restrictions. Rented whitewater kayaks can be used only on sections of the rivers below:
Rio Grande:
- Rio Grande Racecourse
(Put-in at Quartzite, take-out at County Line)
- Rio Grande State Park
(Put-in at the Taos Junction Bridge, take-out at Quartzite)
- Rio Grande Middle Box
(Putin below the confluence of the Red River to John Dunn Bridge take-out)
- Whiterock Canyon
(Put-in at Buckman, take-out at Cochiti Lake)
- Rio Grande Bosque, Albuquerque
(Put-in at Alameda, take-out at Tingley Beach)
Rio Chama:
- Wild & Scenic Section
(Put-in below El Vado dam, take-out at the Chavez River Access point, below the Monestary)
- Day-use section
(Put-in at the Chavez River Access point, below the Monestary, take-out at Big Eddy)
Touring Kayaks may be used on any flatwater lake in New Mexico.
No rented kayak can be used on the Rio Grande Upper Box, Rio Grande Lower Box, Rio Embudo, Rio Brazos, Santa Cruz, Red River, Gila or outside of the sections expressly written above!
