With the turn of the calendar year from 2015 to 2016, New Mexico Kayak Instruction has hired Corey Spoores as its newest member to the instruction, tour, and office staff. As a new resident of the American Southwest, Corey will be a great asset to the NMKI staff by bringing 10 years of East Coast Whitewater Kayaking Experience to share.
As a trip leader and organizer to many classic East Coast rivers such as the Youghiogheny, Tellico, Stoney Creek, and The Cheat River, Corey has built experience in teaching novice boaters the fundamentals of paddling, river rescue, and developing a positive attitude while on the river. His experience has taken him paddling from Alaska with inflatable kayaks to Costa Rica’s Classic Rio Pacuare on a raft assisted multi day canyon trip.
NMKI is excited to announce that in addition to our core classes that have been offered in the past, such as Introduction to Kayaking, Learning the Kayak Roll, and Introduction to Whitewater, we will be offering an expanded selection of whitewater classes and overnight trips. Our expanded class selection will include additional sections of the Rio Grande. In addition to our instructional class offerings, will will be starting sunset/ sunrise, and full moon tours on the Rio Grande in June.
If you are a previous student of NMKI, or looking to add some new skills to your paddling quiver, then NMKI is for you. Our 2016 class offerings will be added to the calendar soon. If you are interested in any classes mentioned above, private lessons, or just have any questions contact us today.
